Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.36

Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.36

This sloka Sri Kunti Devi saying to Krishna.

śrinvanti gāyanti grinvanty abhīksnaśaḥ
smaranti nandanti tavehitaṁ janāḥ
ta eva paśyanty acirena tāvakaṁ
bhava-pravāhoparamaṁ padāmbujam

Translation:

O Krishna, those who continuously hear, chant and repeat Your transcendental activities, or take pleasure in others’ doing so, certainly see Your lotus feet, which alone can stop the repetition of birth and death.

Srila Saccidananda Bhaktivinod Thakur

Srila Bhaktivionda ThakurAbout Srila Saccidananda Bhaktivinod Thakur

From the Bengal writing of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev Goswami Maharaj

Prior to Srila Thakur’s preaching, the pure Vaisnava-dharma preached by Sriman Mahaprabhu had become so degraded, corrupted, and disordered by selfish persons that people considered Vaisnava-dharma to be extremely despicable, to be the dharma of detestably low-natured persons. People considered it to be the dharma of the auls, bauls, kartabhajas, sahajiyas, sakhi-bhekis, neda-nedis, and so on, and mocked it.

Yet by the appearance and endeavour of Srila Bhakti Vinod, Vaisnava-dharma became free from degradation, again self-manifested its pure nature as the dharma of the soul situated atop the heads of all other dharmas, and attained beauty like that of the newly risen shining sun in the sky of the world’s dharmas. All the virtuous souls understood that Vaisnava-dharma is the one and only pure (nirmal), effulgent (ujjvala), non-envious (nirmatsara), devotional and pleasing (‘bhakti-vinodan kari’) dharma of the self within which there is no duplicity or contamination. They understood that if all other dharmas are perfectly performed individually and collectively, then they will attain the beautiful position of stairs towards Vaisnava-dharma.

Kirsna consciousness is the cause of Krishna consciousness!

Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami MaharajDivine Words of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami

Krsna consciousness is the cause of Krishna consciousness!

And we have to get help from the sadhus who have got Krishna consciousness within them. Just as, from one candle another candle may be lit. A candle cannot produce light from within, but it is to be lit from another candle – it is something like that.

We are to awaken our buried Krishna consciousness, which is covered by ‘anyabhilasa-karmma-jnana’1; so, that light, that association, will come to help the sleeping Krishna consciousness within us, and our consciousness will arise from it’s sleep and show itself, as it is.

Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu Pranam

Pranam mantra of Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu

yah sankhya-pankena kutarka-pamsuna
vivarta-gartena cha lupta-didhitim
suddham vyadhad vak-sudhaya mahesvaram
krsnam sa jivah prabhur astu me gatih

“With his nectarean teachings, Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu revealed the Supreme Lord, Krishna, whose effulgence had been hidden by the quicksand of calculation, the dust storm of fallacious logic, and the ditch of illusionism. May he be my shelter.”

—Sri Baladev Vidyabhusan

Suspicion and hesitation are the worst enemies

Divine Words of His Divine Grace Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev Goswami

Suspicion and the hesitation are the worst enemies. We may be near to the truth, but because of our previous karma, our suspicious nature deceive us..
According to the result of our karma we shall be placed in a particular environment, and we must start our spiritual life from wherever we are placed; we must begin our work of conquering all those samskaras that comprise the mental encasement we are living in.

(Samskars is defined as: the faculty of memory, mental impression on the mind of acts done in a former state of existence.)

Truth will come according to our saranagati

Divine Words of His Divine Grace

And one thing we must always keep in mind is that we can’t investigate all of the subtle, higher knowledge as a subjective researcher. Rather, according to the degree of our saranagati, our surrender, the Truth will come down to make Himself known to us. We must always remember this, otherwise some spirit of imitation will be created in us. Knowledge of the higher domain is not under the jurisdiction of the intellect, and to think so is very dangerous. Intellectualism is dangerous; it will cause us to think that we have “caught the Infinite”. It will be negligence to the infinite characteristic, the infinite aspect of the Lord. He is Adhoksaja, beyond the grasp of academic research.

Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhar deva Goswami
(From Golden Stair Case)

How can we detect pratistha within ourselves?

Divine Words of the Guardian of Devotion

Devotee: How can we detect pratistha within ourselves?

Srila Guru Maharaj: That comes with the development of internal perfection and our continuous thankfulness to Gurudeva. It is necessary to understand and feel that everything comes from above: “I have nothing. I have no position and therefore my present situation always depends on the mercy of my Gurudeva. It may be withdrawn from me at any moment. Whatever I may have is not a fixed thing in me. It is not as a matter of right but is only extended grace in me. The moment it is withdrawn I am nowhere. It is all Krsna’s svarupa-sakti. I am tatastha-sakti and have no capital. I am working on the capital of my Master. I have no capital of my own.” We must be able to remain on such a plane of thinking and realize that, “Without His help, without His grace, I am in darkness. My fate is dark. As long as He extends His grace in me I can see. If the light is withdrawn, the eye is helpless.” We are to realize the position that it is not our birth-right.
