From Sri Prema Bhakti Candrika

“One should render transcendental loving service to the Supreme Lord Krsna favourably and without desire for material profit or gain through fruitive activities or philosophical speculation. That is called pure devotional service.”
(Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.11)

anya abhilasa chari, jnana-karma parihari,
kayamane koribo bhajana
sadhu-sange krsna-seba, na pujibo devi deva,
ei bhakti parama karana

Giving up all desires for the path of jnana and karma, I shall engage my mind and body in bhajana. In the association of the Vaisnavas, Krsna’s seva should be performed without the worship of any other deva or devi. This is the cause of parama-bhakti.

Sri Narottama Prabhor Ashtakam

Srila Vishvanath Chakravarti Thakur

namo namah srila narottamaya [1]

Again and again I offer my obeisance unto Sri Gaurangadev’s servant Srila Narottam Thakur, who dispels all darkness with the lustre of his moon-like face by showering the nectar of Sri Krishna-nam.

sankirtananandaja-manda-hasya

When he gently smiles with the joy of Nam-sankirtan, the lustre of his teeth illuminates the directions, and he bathes in streams of perspiration and tears. Again and again I offer my obeisance unto Srila Narottam Thakur.

Nabadwip Dham is the place of Their blessings.

By distributing Mahaprabhu’s message we are not going out to do anything bad but according to our conception we are trying to do the holiest thing. Our purpose is of the holiest type ever possible to conceive, so we must go forward with this program to do good for others, the best for others, and at the same time to get it for ourselves. There can be no engagement more holy than this in the world. It is the holiest engagement and has the blessings of the Lords Nityananda and Sri Gauranga. It is duty to Them. It is Their department. Preaching is the special department of Sri Guaranga and Nityananda Prabhu. Nabadwip Dham is the place of Their blessings. Our prayer to Them is that, absolving us of all offences, They may utilize us. Here in Koladwip, Nabadwip, at the place of forgiveness of all offences, aparadha-bhanjan-pat, we are praying that They may forgive us for all our previous offences and engage us in Their service to spread Krishna consciousness together with Gauranga consciousness.

DIVINE WORDS of Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev Goswami Maharaja

The False Hope of Material Happiness

Śrīla Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswāmī Mahārāj’s appreciation for Śrīpād Śaṅkar Āchārya’s writing.

At the end of his life, Śrīpād Śaṅkar Āchārya composed the Moha-mudgara-stotram [‘The Hammer upon Illusion’], in which he elucidates the futility of worldly pursuits and encourages all to serve Śrī Govinda.

In his commentary on Śaraṇāgati, Śrīla Bhakti Rakṣak Śrīdhar Dev-Goswāmī Mahārāj quotes a verse from this composition:

bālas tāvat krīḍāsaktaḥ
taruṇas tāvat taruṇī-raktaḥ
vṛddhas tāvat chintā-magnāḥ
pare brahmaṇi ko ’pi na lagnaḥ

“Boys are attached to play. Youths are attached to young women. The elderly are absorbed in worries. Alas! No one is conscious of the Absolute.”

During his last years, Śrīla Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswāmī Mahārāj placed the following verse from the Moha-mudgara-stotram on the wall of his veranda.

Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Maharaj

His Divine grace
Om Vishnupad Śrīla Bhakti Pramod Purī Goswāmī Mahārāj

His Divine Grace Om Visnupād Śrīla Bhakti Pramod Purī Goswāmī Mahārāj is a pure devotee.

His humility, sweetness, and kindness give new meaning to the concepts of humility, sweetness, and kindness. To know his life is not to know facts and figures, dates and events, but to know a reality that can sustain life, a joy that can transcend time. When we get a glimpse of his inner mood, his daily devotional practice, and his unique individuality, we will finally see the saint as a real person and not as an abstract concept. That real person is so amazing, so transcendental, that we see in him a glimpse of divinity. Out of spontaneous reverence and love, we will make a place for this divine being in the core of our heart. That is sādhu-sanga (association with a pure devotee), which can grant us eternal benediction.

When we accept the path of devotion, on one hand many things become clearer and easier for us. Yet on the other hand, we often feel we are living in two different worlds, the mundane and the transcendental, and it becomes difficult to harmonize the two. Indeed, in moments of frustration we may wonder if such harmony is even achievable by most of us. So, knowing a saint personally gives us the ultimate help and hope that we need – it answers many questions, shedding light on previously unperceived concepts. We see how the great devotee is also the perfect person, the most lovable person, the most trustworthy person. To have a relationship with him is to have a father and a mother, a teacher and a friend, whose love is limitless, whose knowledge is perfect. In order to establish such a relationship we must bring our most sincere inner self to the shelter of the pure devotee and receive his grace. As Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Mahārāj often said, we must “close the department of the mind and open the department of the heart.”

To study Śrīla Purī Mahārāj’s life is to study Gauriya Vaisnavism. What we cannot realize by reading many scriptures or listening to many eloquent lectures, we can realize by observing his conduct with the śraddha it deserves. And that realization will be a glimpse into his heart, which is an ocean of Krsna-prem and bhāgavat dharma. We will marvel at its depth and its vastness. Sriman Mahāprabhu has described the twenty-six qualities of a pure devotee in Sri Chaitanya-charitāmrta, and Lord Krsna has described the twenty-eight qualities of a sādhu in Śrimad Bhāgavatam those we can see in His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Pramod Puri Goswami Maharaj.

Śrīla Bhakti Pramod Puri Goswami Mahārāj is known all over the Vaisnav world as the greatest living saint.
He is the senior most living disciple of His Divine Grace Gaudiya Gosthipati Srila Bhaktisiddhānta Saraswati Goswāmī Prabhupād, the Founder-Achārya of all the Gaurīya Maths. Vaisnavs all over the world have heard of his long life of dedication, his saintly character, his extraordinary scholarship, his exclusive surrender to his Gurudev, and his intimate and loving relationship with his Godbrothers. Even at one hundred years of age, he
tirelessly preached Hari-kathā with youthful enthusiasm….

(From A Life of Devotion)

Who is Durga?

srishti-sthiti-pralaya-sādhana-śaktir ekā
chāyeva yasya bhuvanāni bibharti durgā
icchānurūpam api yasya ca ceshtate sā
govindam ādi-purusham tam aham bhajāmi

The external potency Māyā who is of the nature of the shadow of the cit potency, is worshiped by all people as Durgā, the creating, preserving and destroying agency of this mundane world. I adore the primeval Lord Govinda in accordance with whose will Durgā conducts herself.

(Brahma samhita 5.44)

Dive deep into God-consciousness

It is the key to the highest success of life and it will take you to your Home. And that Home is so sweet! It is not a foreign land; not that you will take so much risk only to go to some unknown place, where you may be dealt with in any way. There will be no such apprehension, no such doubt or suspicion. But as much as you will be able to make progress on that side, you will find such sweetness, such home-like comfort and confidence.

Glories of Srimati Lalita Devi

Srimati Lalita Devi

Svarupa Damodara is Lalita Devi in Krsna-lila. He gives permission there to join the service of Radharani. He is canvassing to look after the interests of Radharani. Such intense attention to the service of Radharani is never found anywhere else. Lalita Devi sometimes even chastises Krsna boldly. She takes risks by reproaching Krsna, “You do not know the dignity of my Mistress.”

Sometimes Radharani feels ashamed within Her mind. She thinks, “What does He say about Me?” Lalita Devi replies, “This shame is very bad. You just sit quietly. You do not know Your own interest. I know what is Your interest, Your position. I cannot tolerate that Your dignity should be minimized in any way, ever.” That is the spirit of Lalita Devi, of Svarupa Damodara.

Svarupa Damodara is the constant companion of Mahaprabhu in Puri. He is a scholar of the highest class and also a very good singer. Without consideration of his elevated social position, he will perform the simplest service. Svarupa Damodara is there always, everywhere with Mahaprabhu. When Mahaprabhu was lost, the devotees inquired after Him the whole night and Svarupa Damodara was there with a lantern, moving along the seashore, looking for Him.
