What is the characteristic of God?

What is the characteristic of God? God is the guardian of the whole universe, but what is his characteristic? Ultimately, in the Veda, the ancient literature of India, and in the Srimad Bhagavatam scripture, and in the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu our divine guide, it is said very clearly that God is love and beauty.

The highest conception of God is that he is Krishna. He loves everybody and He is very beautiful and charming. It is very easy to feel happiness when we live our life in connection with him. We will feel “I want to experience that Krishna conception of God. I want to live there with Krishna.”

Two Essential Qualifications of Absolute

Hegel was a good German philosopher and in his philosophy, he has given a concept:
the Absolute Truth, the Prime Cause of everything, must have two qualifications. What are they? It must be by itself and for itself.

Please try to pay attention. ‘By itself’ means that He is His own cause—nothing else created Him. If anything has created Him, that creator will have the primary importance. Therefore, to be the Absolute He must be anadi, eternally existing and not created by anything. The Absolute must have this qualification.

The next qualification is that the Absolute Truth is ‘for itself’. He exists for His own satisfaction, not to satisfy any other. If His existence was for the purpose of satisfying any other entity, that would make Him secondary and He would not hold the prime position.

Divine quotes – part 2

Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Maharaj1. The spiritual realm is inconceivable, but still, we are to try to understand things according to our capacity, faith, and realization. Above all, we have to accommodate within our minds, that sweetness is sweet, and truth is truth – however strong it may be.

2. We want affinity in intimacy with Gurudeva, and it is he who has the connection with the Centre – with the Substance. If I can maintain a bona fide relationship with Gurudeva, then automatically I shall get Him.

3. Only faith is not treacherous: it will remain with the soul – within – giving hope, prospect and sustenance. Home comfort.

4. Krsna is the Autocrat but He is sweet. And you will also get sweetness, fulfillment and love by following in the footsteps of that Autocrat. Beauty is the Autocrat; Sweetness is the Autocrat; Love is the Autocrat – and that is beyond All-Law.

5. “Om” means a big “Yes”. Whatever you are searching for, it exists. What your inner heart hankers after, that exists and is existing. Whatever apparently you see, you must go to the inner substance – the Super-subject. The Lord of your search is there.

6. Sincere search is necessary for the aspiring devotee so that his Krsna conception may not be only a sham – a hypocritical endeavor. And you will get help in that direction from the real devotees.

Srila Sridhar Pandit

From Heart and Halo: The Real Judgment of Love, pages 44-45

Love is wonderfully above everything, surpassing all. Mahaprabhu asked us to accept the path of love, which means giving one’s heart, one’s self. It is so powerful, nothing else can attract
Krishna. He is very greedy to eat this love, this prema. He lives on prema. He is the Lord of love.
That love has its inner existence; it is the inner existence of all of us. He is Love personified, and there is a tinge within us also; and like ‘birds of a feather’, love likes love.
Once Mahaprabhu, at the time when He had conquered and captured the Kazi, was leading the sankirtan party and was feeling very tired. He came to Sridhar Pandit, the poor brahmana who
used to sell plantains in the market to somehow meagerly earn his livelihood.

Sridhar Pandit had a well and nearby an iron pot which he used for drawing water. Mahaprabhu began to drink water from the well with that pot, which had been left outside. All the devotees
objected, “What are You doing? This pot is always kept outside and is very dirty. We are bringing a clean pot for Your drinking water!”

Mahaprabhu ignored them and continued drinking water from that iron pot. He commented, “This is the pot of My devotee Sridhar; it is purer than anything.”

In Bhagavad-gita the Lord says:

api chet suduracharo, bhajate mam ananya-bhak
sadhur eva sa mantavyah, samyag vyavasito hi sah
(Bhagavad-gita 9.30)

“If a person is an unalloyed devotee who worships Me exclusively, having abandoned all other pursuits based on exploitation and renunciation, even if he commits some abominable action, he
is to be considered saintly. He is cent-per-cent pure, because his endeavors are completely on My behalf and his determination is fixed in that resolve.”

This is because one who has really surrendered to Krishna is accepted by Him as His own, and such a surrendered soul should never be considered impure, a transgressor.

By His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj

Slow and steady wins the race.

Ecstasy can exist by itself. Neither existence nor consciousness are complete in themselves. Consciousness alone hankers for ecstasy. And existence without consciousness is to exist with no purpose. Both existence and consciousness are subservient to ecstasy.

To come to the plane of ecstasy, we shall have to dive deep into reality. We must not be satisfied with the formal, superficial.

Our attitude should be one of humility, and if we think that we are being done wrong, still we should be patient, and under no circumstances should we work for our own position; that should be our aim.

Slow and steady wins the race. Our march towards the infinite is a long journey, not to be finished within a few hours, a few days, or a few years.

Love your environment

Love your environment. Sincerely try to love one another and you will find yourself in Vrindaban, Chintamani Dham, the land of Krishna, under His guidance.

Just try to find your sweet self within that domain. There you will live in sweetness where all movement is like dancing and speech is a song, the water is nectar and the trees are kalpataru – whatever you like they are giving to you. Your innermost self is entitled to live in that divine civilization.

When service is added to consciousness

A sweet structure begins from the point when service is added to consciousness. Service can construct a beautiful capital, a beautiful country.

It is there, and you have only to feel it, enter, and take up your appointed service.

You will think: “This is my home! This appointment feels very friendly to me. Now I have come home.”

The Lord is always there

The Lord is always there, even in the worst period of our lives. He is waiting, waiting to help us. We must only look up for His grace, with sincerity with all sincerity. He is everywhere, waiting:

“My boy, look at Me. Don’t make much of the external environment. I am here, very near to you. You have cast your focus aside, you have cast your consciousness outside. Make it internal and you will find Me here. Make it above. You are looking down to secure servants and comforts, but if you look up, for existence higher than you, you will find Me in that plane. Look up! Don’t look down, searching for servants.”

Divine Words of Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara deva Goswami Maharaj

I want no less than that highest thing

We should feel within, “I want no less than that highest thing, that Advaya-jnana, that Autocrat. That Goodness Autocrat, the Supermost Commander of Everything. I want Him and nothing less, and I shall live and move, and feel in myself that whatever I shall do, at every second, I am meant for that. I am meant for my ideal. I have no time to waste, or to hesitate for anything. If every moment I move in every way with the ideal in my heart, I shall always make some progress towards it. If I can just stay in touch with my ideal, that will guide and inspire me. In any and every action, whatever I shall do or undo, eat, rest, etc., my ideal will be overhead. And that will gradually take me out of all these entanglements and enticements, and one day or other I shall be able to reach it. ”

Every heart is a temple of the Lord

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to direct us to our real interest within:

“You do not know your own heart. You are a foreigner to your own heart and its demand.
There is a wealth within your heart – try to find it: eliminate the foreign things, and you will find your heart to be a temple of Krishna. With the help of a
proper guide, search your own heart and you will find Krishna there. This is not a foreign thing to you.

Every heart is a temple of the Lord. It is your property, it is your home. Back to God, back to home.”
