nastha dharme na vasu-nicaye naiva kamopabhoge
yad yad bhavyam bhavatu bhagavan purva-karmanurupam
etat prarthyam mama bahu-matam janma-janmantare ‘pi
tvat padambhoruha-yuga-gata niscala bhaktir astu

“O Lord, I have no faith in religiosity, economic development, or sense enjoyment. May all these things come to pass as they are ordained according to my previous karma. But my earnest prayer is that birth after birth I may have unflinching devotion for Your lotus feet.”

I am Yours

In his commentary on Saranagati, Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj notes that ‘Sri Nanda Kumar hears their prayers’ means Krishna reciprocates with the surrendered souls in accordance with their prayers. As an example of this, Srila Sridhar Dev Goswami Maharaj cites the following evidence from the scriptures:

sakṛd eva prapanno yas tavāsmīti cha yāchate
abhayaṁ sarvadā tasmai dadāmy etad vrataṁ mama
(Ramayana: Yuddha-kanda, 18.33)

[When Vibhishan, the brother of Ravan, prays to Him for shelter, Ram Chandra proclaims before Hanuman and all His devotees:] “Anyone who even once sincerely surrenders unto Me, declares, ‘I am Yours’, and prays for fearlessness — it is My vow that I will always supply that to them.”

“The transcendental lila of Sri Krsna is great nectar for the ears. Those who relish just a single drop of that nectar even once have their attachment to material duality totally ruined. Many such persons have immediately given up their futile homes and families and have come to Vrndavana like a free bird out of a cage. Becoming totally detached from their material life those devotees have taken up the path of renunciation and have accepted alms just to maintain their lives on this plane. In this way, they continue to search for Him, the complete fulfillment of life.”

Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Deva Goswami Maharaja exhibited profound natural and intrinsic spontaneous genius in the field of Sanskrit language, literature, and thought.


From the very beginning of Pujyapada Sridhara Maharaja’s matha (ashram) life, his adherence to the devotional services of his own guru, Srila Prabhupada (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur), was super-resplendent.

The Disappearance of Srila Sridhara Maharaja

Last Friday, on 12th August 1988 on amavasya-tithi at 5:48 am in the morning – the principal stalwart personality, dear associate and follower of Nitya-lila Pravista Prabhupada 108 Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami Thakura who preached the pure devotional instructions of Sri Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu worldwide, namely Sri Srimad Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Deva Gosvami Maharaja, the principal acarya of Sri Caitanya Sarasvata Matha situated in Kolarganj at Sridhama Navadvipa, at the age of 93, entered into the eternal pastimes of Sri Sri Radha Govinda-sundara amidst a maha-sankirtana of intense separation performed by his own associates and devotees.

The news of his disappearance has been announced everywhere in India and outside of India in the western world via the medium of telephone, radio and newspaper. Hearing the news of the disappearance of Pujyapada Maharaja, the servants of Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Matha were immersed in deep sorrow. He was the senior godbrother of the most worshippable founder-acarya of Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Matha, Nitya-lila Pravista Tridandi Gosvami Sri Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja. He was the very intimate friend of Pujyapada Madhava Maharaja. They preached the message of Prabhupada together in many places in India. Srila Prabhupada, with the help of his own associates such as Nitya-lilia Pravista Srimad Bhakti Saranga Gosvami Maharaja, Srimad Bhakti Hrdaya Vana Maharaja, Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja and Srimad Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Maharaja, established various mathas/temples as permanent preaching centres in various parts of India for spreading the message of Sri Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu.

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweetness

It is stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam (10. 31.9):

tava kathamrtam taptajivanam
kavibhir iditam kalmasapaham
sravana-mangalam srimad-atatam
bhuvi grnanti ye bhurida janah

“O, Krsna, the nectar of your words and the narrations of your pastimes give life to us, who are always suffering in this material world. This nectar is broadcast all over the world by great souls, and it removes all sinful reactions. It is all-auspicious and filled with spiritual power. Those who spread this message of Godhead are certainly doing the greatest relief work for human society and are the most magnanimous welfare workers.”

This is what is necessary and this is what is universal. Everyone can be satisfied to the highest degree in their hearts only by the nectar of Krsna’s words and the nectarine descriptions of his activities. This is because Krsna is raso vai sah, the reservoir of all pleasure, and akhila rasamrta murtih, ecstasy Himself. Krsna’s very nature is sweet:

Divine quotes – part 3

1. Ecstasy can exist by itself. Neither existence nor consciousness are complete in themselves. Consciousness alone hankers for ecstasy. And existence without consciousness is to exist with no purpose. Both existence and consciousness are subservient to ecstasy.

2. To come to the plane of ecstasy, we shall have to dive deep into reality. We must not be satisfied with the formal, the superficial.

3. Our attitude should be one of humility, and if we think that we are being done wrong, still we should be patient, and under no circumstances should we work for our own position; that should be our aim.

4. Slow and steady wins the race. Our march towards the infinite is a long journey, not to be finished within a few hours, a few days, or a few years.

5. Eternal existence, consciousness, and fulfillment (ecstasy) are the three principles of our ultimate destination.

6. First, we must eliminate this mortal existence. Then, we must satisfy our reason, our consciousness. And finally, we must satisfy our hearts.

What is the characteristic of God?

What is the characteristic of God? God is the guardian of the whole universe, but what is his characteristic? Ultimately, in the Veda, the ancient literature of India, and in the Srimad Bhagavatam scripture, and in the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu our divine guide, it is said very clearly that God is love and beauty.

The highest conception of God is that he is Krishna. He loves everybody and He is very beautiful and charming. It is very easy to feel happiness when we live our life in connection with him. We will feel “I want to experience that Krishna conception of God. I want to live there with Krishna.”

Two Essential Qualifications of Absolute

Hegel was a good German philosopher and in his philosophy, he has given a concept:
the Absolute Truth, the Prime Cause of everything, must have two qualifications. What are they? It must be by itself and for itself.

Please try to pay attention. ‘By itself’ means that He is His own cause—nothing else created Him. If anything has created Him, that creator will have the primary importance. Therefore, to be the Absolute He must be anadi, eternally existing and not created by anything. The Absolute must have this qualification.

The next qualification is that the Absolute Truth is ‘for itself’. He exists for His own satisfaction, not to satisfy any other. If His existence was for the purpose of satisfying any other entity, that would make Him secondary and He would not hold the prime position.
